Hey now! Apologies for the delay in this monthly update and also for its brevity…we had a baby last week so time is
short! Here is a quick summary of what’s happening in the world of Matinée. Please see the
previous update for further details on all new releases, and look for a proper update
in early October.
The wonderful “All Things Can Be Mended” CD (matcd033) from Harper Lee
is now out! Listen to soundclips on the sounds or catalog
page, and look for it in a shop near you or via the Matinée mailorder. Also see the latest
Tasty fanzine for a brand new
Harper Lee interview including perspectives on the new album, live shows, and the Boo Radleys!
The magnificent fourth album from Would-Be-Goods is called “The Morning After” (matcd032)
and it is also now available in a shop near you or via the Matinée mailorder. The band has
launched a brand new website and plays a live show
October 4th at Water Rats in London with Call and Response. The latest
Tasty also
features a Would-Be-Goods interview, including some words on the new album, él Records, and the challenge of
describing the Would-Be-Goods sound.
In other new release news, the outstanding second album “Inner North” (matcd034)
from Australia’s The Guild League is now available for sale! The official release date is September 27th
but we have copies now so order your copy today for the quickest delivery. It’s a keeper I promise.
See the sounds or catalog page for soundclips.
Our September artist of the month is The Windmills! I really can’t say enough about the Windmills…they
are one of my personal favorite bands and responsible for no fewer than seven distinguished Matinée releases. As
resident artist of the month, we have updated the Windmills artist page with
new content including a video for their last single “What Was It For.” We are also now accepting votes for the
Windmills favorite song poll so let us know which songs make you smile. There are lots of Windmills songs now
featured on the sounds page too, including the rare track ‘Dolphins’ taken from the
band’s 1988 debut 45. Check it out! All Windmills titles are on sale this month only at the mailorder
so take this opportunity to complete your collection because The Windmills rule okay?
On the new release horizon, look for the brand new “Everybody Hates” CD by Lovejoy and “Sleepydust” EP
from The Snowdrops, plus new releases from Pale Sunday, The Young Tradition, Pipas,
and a brand new Matinée band all in the works! More details next month I promise.
